Our Medical Advisory Panel brings together leading clinicians and researchers from across the UK who share a commitment to improving care for people affected by Pelvic Radiation Disease (PRD). Their expertise helps ensure that our guidance and resources are clinically robust, evidence-based, and aligned with best practice, with each member contributing unique insight to our work.
About Dr Tham
As part of our Medical Advisory Panel, we are delighted to spotlight Dr Tony Tham, MB BCH BAO, MD, FRCP, MSc. FESGE, Consultant Gastroenterologist at the Ulster Hospital in Belfast.
Dr Tham is a highly respected gastroenterologist, with an international reputation for advancing clinical practice, education and standards of care. He has published more than 100 peer reviewed papers and has held editorial roles with leading journals including Gut, Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and the World Journal of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. He has also been invited to lecture at major international meetings around the world.
Within the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE), Dr Tham serves on the Governing Board and is currently Chair of the ESGE Guidelines Committee. He has previously chaired the ESGE Curriculum Working Group and continues to contribute as a member of its Scientific Committee. His commitment to improving standards in gastroenterology has also been recognised through leadership roles with the Irish Society of Gastroenterology, the Ulster Society of Gastroenterology and the British Society of Gastroenterology, where he was awarded the President’s Medal in 2021 for his outstanding contribution to gastroenterology services and standards.
Advancing Medical Education and Training
Alongside his clinical and professional leadership, Dr Tham has played a significant role in medical education and training. His previous positions include Head of the School of Medicine for the Northern Ireland Medical and Dental Training Agency, Training Programme Director for Internal Medicine and Deputy Chair of the Joint Royal Colleges of Physicians Training Board’s Specialist Advisory Committee in General Internal Medicine.
As a member of PRDA’s Medical Advisory Panel, Dr Tham brings a particular interest in leadership, education and the development of high quality information and guidance. He is passionate about supporting the collaborative review and development of our resources, helping to ensure they remain accurate, evidence based and relevant to both healthcare professionals and people living with Pelvic Radiation Disease (PRD).
His expertise and commitment to improving standards of care make him a valued member of our Medical Advisory Panel and an important contributor to PRDA’s mission to improve awareness, understanding and support for people affected by PRD.
