We are thrilled to see that a Late Effects service has been shortlisted for a 2024 Nursing Times Award.

The Nursing Times Awards comprises 25 categories covering a variety of fields and specialties. One of the categories is the Ingrid Fuchs Cancer Nursing Award, which is open to individual nurses or teams who have enhanced the quality of care for cancer patients, from diagnosis to post-treatment. The award recognises nurses who innovate and excel in delivering compassionate, patient-centred care, making a lasting impact on cancer care delivery.

The Ingrid Fuchs Cancer Nursing award has a total of 12 nominees including the Pelvic Radiotherapy Late Effects Service at the Velindre University NHS Trust – . Ingrid Fuchs was a clinical nurse specialist who wrote about her own cancer journey for the Nursing Times. By writing as a health professional about her own cancer experience, she hoped to offer new insights for other nurses. Ingrid died in 2022 and this category has been named in tribute to her.

We are very pleased to see that a Late Effects Service has been nominated for this award. This recognition helps raise much-needed awareness for late effects services and acknowledges the hard work of the team. We wish the Velindre Pelvic Radiotherapy Late Effects Service all the best for the Awards Ceremony in October.
