Support for you
Support plays a very important part in adjusting to living with the after-effects of cancer treatment. It is necessary not just for patients but for those close to them too. Support covers access to information, identification of appropriate medical help, financial advice and contact with others who have shared experiences.
- Our friendly Online Community – a safe and supportive space for people living with Pelvic Radiation Disease (PRD) to share their experiences, ask questions, and learn from others.
- Our monthly Chat Together support group where people can share their experience of PRD in a supportive and informal group.
- Our Out and About Tookit – practical tips to help self-manage PRD as well as handy tools such like a RADAR key and toilet card to make venturing out less daunting.
Other information and support services
- NHS 111 – free NHS helpline service for urgent medical concerns. Staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by a team of fully trained advisers.
- The Practical Management of Gastrointestinal Symptoms of Pelvic Radiation Disease (J Andreyev et al, 2014). This is the most comprehensive guide to managing gastrointestinal symptoms of PRD.
- Maggie’s are able to offer support to help manage worries, anxiety, and distress that you may experience following a cancer diagnosis and treatment. You can contact Maggie’s on 0300 123 1801 or via their email: enquires@maggies.org. Alternatively, there are 24 physical Maggie’s centres throughout the UK- no appointment is needed. You can simply pop in and meet with one of the team.
- Maggie’s Cambridge offers specific support for those affected by PRD and can be contacted on 01223 249220 or via email: cambridge@maggiescentres.org.
